Roger Hough retired from Shell in November 1999 after
32 years in the oilfield, and has set up a consultancy to capitalise on
his experience in oilfield operations and competitive intelligence - particularly
competitive technical intelligence (CTI).
Roger Hough has worked in the oil industry since 1967
when he joined Shell after graduating in Applied Mineral Sciences that
year from the University of Leeds. He has worked for Shell in various
countries - notably UK, Italy, Malta, Brunei, Oman, Netherlands, Canada,
and Venezuela. His last position was at the Shell Research and Technology
Centre in Rijswijk, The Netherlands where he was Senior Manager responsible
for intellectual property management. This involved both Disclosure
management and competitive technical intelligence. He is a member
of SCIP (Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals).
In his previous assignment, Venezuela, as Operations Manager
he was charged with getting an offshore drilling and production venture
operational, (sour production) resulting in an increase in production
from some 8000 b/d in mid 1995 to nearly 50,000 b/d at the end of 1997.
Prior to that he had various assignments in the area of
drilling technology and petroleum engineering.
Hough has been active with the Society of Petroleum Engineers
(SPE) over many years, has chaired a number of technical conferences,
and has been an SPE Distinguished Lecturer on the topic of Slim Hole Drilling Technology.
